Personal Development

At Wilbury Junior School our curriculum has a clear purpose and we have embedded our school values:

confidence, achievement, organisation, resilience, courage, tolerance, respect, and sustainability through it, both directly within half-term topics, but also within our curriculum and personal development. We strive to support and give opportunities to all pupils to support them now and in later life so that they not only have academic and work success but also their own personal development.

Intent

Our intention is to provide all of our children with a wide range of rich activities that enable them to extensively develop their personal development. All staff will promote personal development across the school. We have coherently planned our RHSE curriculum with our children’s individual needs at it’s core. School collective worship is used to introduce and reinforce taking place across the schcool.

Implementation

Throughout each academic year, teachers are encouraged to plan to develop their children’s personal development through a wide range of experiences, including: trips, workshops, visits, events etc. PSHE and RHSE lessons have been rigorously planned to ensure that all children are able to develop key skills and acquire knowledge that are vital to their learning journey. Assemblies have been strategically planned so that clear progression can be made across year groups and throughout the academic year. We also provide our children with additional assemblies from our multi-academy trust that provide meaningful opportunities to understand not only the school values but the trust values too.

Impact

Wilbury Junior School will assess the impact of our Personal Development in a variety of ways. This will include lesson observations and moderation of planning and outcomes. However, it will also involve listening to feedback from our children and how they believe their Personal Development needs are being addressed. Parents are regularly informed of their child’s Personal Development through informal discussions and parents evening.
