Year 4

Our new topic this term is water. We have lots of exciting lessons planned. We will use our geographical skills to explore famous rivers across Europe and the world including identifying their sources. We will also go out and explore the local area to gather data on the River Pix Brook.

In English, we will initially be looking at a text called After the Fall, which is a sequel to the Humpty Dumpty. We will also be creating an explanation text using the inspiration of Wallace and Gromit and When I met Dudley with a focus on inventions.

In Guided Reading, we will be looking at the journey of Lucy, Peter, Susan and Edmund in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S Lewis. After half-term, we shall be looking at The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo. This emotional novel tells the story of a lonely boy who runs away from boarding school and befriends an old lady who tells him an incredible story.

Maths lessons will be taught from our Power Maths scheme. Over the term, we will cover lots of new Maths topics, add to skills we already have and develop them even further! To start off the term we will be looking at multiplication and division, Area, Fractions and Decimals. We will be concentrating on developing knowledge and recollection of times tables, as children will be required to undertake the statutory Times Tables test in the summer term. Children should be able to recall all their times tables up to 12 x 12.

The homework expectations are that all children will have weekly spellings, which will be tested on a Friday. In your spelling practise book, you will need to practise your spellings at least three times a week. You will need to read at home at least three times a week and your planner will need to be signed by an adult. You should be using Times Tables Rock Stars regularly and achieve 1,000 coins by the end of each week. Children will also be set pages to complete in the CPG books for Maths and English.

PE days for Aqua and Azure are Monday and Tuesday. In PE, we will be practising our Gymnastics and Dance skills. Please ensure you have a named PE kit, including trainers, for outdoor PE.
