Year 4

Welcome back to the Summer Term! We hope your Easter Holiday was relaxing and enjoyable.

We are looking forward to the new term ahead with a Positive Growth Mindset and hope you are too!

This term, we will be continuing with our Power Maths scheme and also preparing the children for the Times Table Test in June. Please continue to use TTRS daily to support this learning.

In English, we will be starting the term with a book called The Iron Man. This book will provide the children with plenty of opportunities to develop their writing skills in different ways as well as developing their speaking and listening skills through debate and reader's theatre.

Our History topic is Ancient Civilisations. This project teaches children about the history of three of the world’s first ancient civilisations: ancient Sumer, ancient Egypt and the Indus Valley civilisation. Children will learn about the rise, life, achievements and eventual end of each civilisation.

In music, we will be learning how to play the Djembe drums to help further develop our knowledge of pulse and our new Art topic is 'Statues, Statuettes and Figurines'. The children will study examples from ancient civilisations, and use their clay skills to create a Sumer-style figurine - which will also support the History topic.

As part of our Religious Education, we will be learning about Shabbat and Eid ul-Adha.

We continue our Science topic 'Grouping and Classifying' and as part of this unit we have an exciting trip to Standalone Farm planned.

In PE our topics for are Athletics and Rounders. There will also be a week of swimming at the outdoor pool in the last week before half term.

In the second half of the summer term, Year 4 will also have their 'sleepover' in school. This is an exciting opportunity for all and as a team we are already planning lots of fun activities!

Your PE days are:

Aqua (Miss Bottazzi) - Monday and Tuesday

Azure (Miss Stacey and Mrs Ewen) - Tuesday and Thursday
