Happy New Year,
Our Creative Curriculum topic this term is all about Water! We will be researching how rivers are formed, discovering all about the River Thames and conducting experiments. We will be learning to use water colours and composing our own water music.
In English, we will initially be looking at ‘Biscuit Bear’ by Mini Grey. We will be writing a story for younger audience, creating book reviews and delivering presentations. We will then go on to look at a book titled ‘Tuesday’ by David Wiesner and create newspaper articles and narratives. After half term, we will continue to write in a range of genres including persuasive writing, non-chronological reports and poetry. In Guided Reading, we will be reading ‘The Secret of Platform 13’ by Eva Ibbotson. The tale of a magical Island and a forgotten Prince. If you have your own copy of this text you are welcome to bring it into school to read along.
Maths lessons will be taught from our Power Maths scheme. Over the term, we will cover lots of new maths topics and continue to develop skills we already have. To start off the term we will be looking at Multiplication and Division and then moving on to Fractions and Decimals. We will continue to concentrate on developing knowledge and recollection of times tables, in preparation for the statutory Times Tables test in the summer term.
In Science this term, we will be studying ‘States of Matter’ and investigating the differences between solids, liquids and gases on a molecular level. After half term we will be looking at ‘Sound.’
